GAMAC Celebrates Area Youth

Anderson, SC——The Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC) will present its 17th annual Celebration of Youth concert on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 8:00p.m. in Henderson Auditorium at the Rainey Fine Arts Center on the campus of Anderson University. Featuring the youth groups of GAMAC joined by the GAMAC Orchestra and a group of local high school musicians, this event is sure to impress audiences with outstanding young talent from across the region.
In addition to performances by the GAMAC Youth Chorus, Boychoir and Girl Choir, this Celebration of Youth will feature 45 high school instrumentalists representing T.L. Hanna, Walhalla, Westside, West Oak, Crescent, Wren, Belton-Honea Path and Palmetto High Schools performing along side members of the GAMAC Orchestra. “The object of this experience is to give these young musicians the opportunity to experience a professional level of performance excellence at an age in which we hope they will become inspired to further develop their performance skills as they move on from high school,” said Alex Spainhour, GAMAC Artistic Director. “The students rehearse independently for the first few rehearsals, and then they begin working with the Orchestra. They find themselves sitting next to a professional player at that first joint rehearsal and when they play those first two notes it’s an ‘A-HA!’ kind of moment! The sound is incredibly mature,” he said.
To top off this incredible evening, the winner of the Bernhardt House of Violins and GAMAC Concerto Competition, Andrew Jacobi, will make his debut with the orchestra. A clarinet student at the South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts from Clemson, SC, Mr. Jacobi will perform Claude Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsody.
This performance is made possible with generous sponsorship support from AnMed Health, Carolina First and Anderson County. Tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $12 for students. Group discounts are available for groups of ten or more. To purchase tickets, please call the GAMAC office at (864) 231-6147.
