The GAMAC Chorale under the direction of Dr. Don Campbell will open the 21st Masterworks Series with For the Love of Food~ A Musical Feast on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 7:30pm in The Rainey Fine Arts Center at Anderson University. From tunes about sweets to songs of soup, the GAMAC Chorale will serve a 6-course musical feast of short comic songs celebrating the joy of food!
Cooked up by director Don Campbell, this thematic concert is designed to capture the musical imagination with a dash of humor. With Broadway “appetizers” from favorites such as Oliver and a “soup course” from John Rutter’s Banquet Fugue to Sidney Hoddes’ Mashed Potato Love Poem about choosing between a person and a pile of hot mashed potatoes with butter, the evening promises a vocal smorgasbord encompassing classical, jazz and pop genres! Fred Silver’s Jack Spratt’s Fugue and Allan Robert Petker’s Eating Song based on the words of Sir Walter Raleigh will delight the most discriminating of musical palettes while a Dance of the Sugar Plums dessert from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker performed by pianists Kenneth Varner and Janice Wright will sweeten the evening. “We wanted to prepare a gourmet ‘feast’ to whet our audience’s appetite for the bountiful harvest that is choral music,” said Don Campbell.
For the Love of Food will be the opening concert of GAMAC’s 21st Masterworks Series. To celebrate the occasion, the GAMAC Guild will host a special Opening Night dinner prior to the concert. Featuring a buffet dinner and pre-concert lecture, diners will be treated to a professional musician’s guide to the music of the evening. The dinner will be held prior to the performance at 5:30pm in the Vandiver Gallery in the Thrift Library at Anderson University. Reservations are required and additional charges apply. “The dinner will be a wonderful overture to the evening, “said GAMAC Executive Director, Dana Gencarelli. “Great food, warm fellowship and an insider’s guide to the concert! What could be better?,” she said.
Tickets to For the Love of Food~A Musical Feast are priced at $25 for adults and $12 for students. Additional charges apply for those wishing to attend the dinner.
